The digestive system, sometimes called the gastrointestinal tract, alimentary tract, or gut, consists of a long tube which extends through the trunk of the body, and its accessory structures: the salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The digestive tract is divided into two sections, the upper tract, consisting of the mouth, esophagus, and stomach, and the lower tract, consisting of the intestines, rectum and anus.
